October 2016 Superintendent Message

October has quickly arrived and we are in the middle of great work while also gearing up to showcase the successes of each school and our district. We achieve these successes thanks to our students, parents, educators, community members, and business members. Your support is what makes us one of the best school districts in North Carolina!

We are currently involved in a strategic planning process that will build a shared vision for Mount Airy City Schools. We will answer questions such as, “How do we empower our students? How can we recruit, retain, and reinvigorate an amazing staff? Which processes need improvement?” and “Which partners will help us meet our strategic goals?” We value your opinion and want your feedback. Let us know if you want to join a strategic group who is grappling with these questions this month. If you would like to come to our next community feedback session please mark Monday, November 7th at 6:00p.m. at Mount Airy High School on your calendar.

Community Night is one of our most exciting nights as we applaud what our students and staff are accomplishing. This annual night brings out hundreds of parents and community members to celebrate our successes and learn more about the great work going on in MACS. We will have wonderful food from our school nutrition department, exciting student presentations from elementary groups through high school groups, school information booths, and much more. Our partnerships will be well represented and this year our partnership with Richard Childress Racing (RCR) and the Dow Chemical Company will be highlighted with a “Slime Segment” where students will be able to see some of their favorite teachers and principals get slimed.

We hope you can join us at one or both of these events as we continue to make decisions and experiences available to our students that will ensure they reach new heights and are equipped for success in their lives.
