Teacher Feature December 2019

What is your educational background?

I attended:

  • K-12 in Iredell-Statesville School District
    • K-8 Union Grove Elementary School
    • North Iredell High School
  • Surry Community College
  • Lees-McRae College where I earned my Bachelors Degree

Where do you teach?  I am an Exceptional Children's teacher at Mount Airy High School. I teach the Occupational Course of Study to ninth through twelfth graders.

How many years have you been in education? This is my 25th year working in education for the North Carolina Public School System.

Tells us about your family. I live downtown Mount Airy with my two children Camron and Ashlyn. Both of my children attend Mount Airy High School.

What is your favorite part of the year and why?

Living in Mount Airy I LOVE that we have all four seasons. I love snow days in the winter, dogwood trees in the spring, hot summer days when it still daylight at 8:30 in the evening, and the Autumn Leaves Festival in the fall.

My favorite part of the school year has been and will continue to be the first day.  The first day of school each year is always memorable; new beginnings, meeting new students and catching up with former students. (New Sharpie Markers make me super HAPPY!)

Finish this statement: I teach because I want to help my students find out what they are passionate about, and put those passions to practice in their future beyond high school.  The most important lesson I want to teach each day is to always BE KIND!

Ask your class or group of students to describe you.

Kind, Funny, Sometimes Tough, In Charge, Hard Working
