While BHT does not have state accountability data due to K-2 grade levels, they are combined with Jones with state reporting, and students showed substantial acquisition of literacy skills. BHT had a school-wide proficiency of 76% on the 2024-2025 DIBELS testing, which placed them 10 percentage points above the state proficiency. Students in the dual language program scored 76% proficient on Lectura, the Spanish equivalent assessment, which placed them above average.

Superintendent Dr. Phillip Brown shared, “These results are a reflection of our students’ talent and determination, guided by the dedication of our teachers and staff. Mount Airy is a special place where every child is known and supported, and I could not be more proud of how our students are shining across North Carolina.”

The Importance of Growth
Proficiency is not the only measure of how well students are learning or how well teachers are teaching. Achieving high growth means educators are accomplishing the goal of personalizing the educational experience for each child - whether they are two years above grade level or two years below. MACS continues its commitment to every child, every day.

More than a Test Score
Fundamental to the district’s success is that students are more than a test score. MACS uses data to reflect upon strategies, identify areas of improvement, and celebrate accomplishments. However, the district believes strongly that test scores are only a small part of the equation for each child’s success. Mount Airy City Schools will continue to strive to engage students and cultivate their talents, strengths, and interests.
