Curriculum Facilitator Named for Tharrington Primary

Mrs. Payne is a North Carolina Teaching Fellow and in addition to her undergraduate work she spent time substitute teaching to prepare for her career in education. That career began in 2009 at Ogden Elementary School in Wilmington, North Carolina. Her time with Mount Airy City Schools began in 2012 when she became a teacher at Tharrington Primary School (BHT). In 2014, she was named the Balanced Literacy Specialist at BHT where she promoted home to school collaboration through Family Literacy Nights. Mrs. Payne has organized efforts to prevent summer reading loss for students, facilitated PLC meetings, and worked closely with school and district administrators to continue the great work at BHT.

“We are excited to welcome Mrs. Payne into her new role as Curriculum Facilitator at BHT. Her success as a classroom teacher and literacy specialist have prepared her for a leadership role in our school system. She will continue the great work that ensures our school and district vision become a reality for all students.” -Olivia Byerly
