Dr. Morrison Named Superintendent

Morrison has spent her 20 plus year career in education working to provide all students with the opportunities of choice, a challenging, relevant environment, and path to success. Not only has she strived to provide for students but she realizes the development of administrators and educators must be supported and they must hold high expectations for lifelong learning for themselves and their students.

Dr. Kim Morrison states, “I am humbled and honored to be named the Superintendent of Mount Airy City Schools. It is a privilege to be the leader of such a family-focused, high achieving school district. The students, families, staff, administrators and school board make Mount Airy City Schools one of the highest performing school districts in NC. Our success is built on maintaining high expectations for every child and diagnosing and addressing the challenges that students face. It is my job as a leader to empower every educator so we can better serve students. And the only way to do that is to listen carefully to all stakeholders, seek expert advice, and develop a plan for success. I pledge to the community that I will continue the Mount Airy tradition of excellence by leading, innovating, and serving.”

For the past three years she has worked in MACS to support the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) programming, problem-based learning, Balanced Literacy, Professional Learning Communities, as well as support language programs at Tharrington Primary and Mount Airy High School. Her work has led her to develop unique, innovative partnerships such as Richard Childress Racing, Center for International Understanding, Mathematics and Science Partnership Grants, NC State, The University of Texas at Dallas, Wake Forest University, O2 Energies, After-School Quality Partnership Grants, as well as local partnerships and private grant funders.
