Teacher Feature October 2018

What is your educational background? Dobson Elementary School, Central Middle School, Surry Central High School, and The University of North Carolina at Charlotte - Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education with a Minor in Teaching English as a Second Language

Where do you teach? What grade level(s) and subject area(s)? I teach 5th grade English Language Arts and Social Studies at Jones Intermediate School.

How many years have you been in education? I began my career in education at Jones Intermediate School in January 2018.

Tells us about your family. I have a three year old Shih Tzu dog named Roxy and a six month old Calico kitten named Lily.

What is your favorite part of the year and why? My favorite part of the year is the Christmas season. One of my favorite traditions is visiting the Tanglewood Festival of Lights. I love to look at the twinkling lights as the snowflakes fall from the sky, with holiday music playing, and a warm cup of hot chocolate in my hands. Nothing gets me in the holiday spirit more than this! I also love all of the extra time I get to spend with my family and friends. I cherish this time of year because it is a time to slow down, reflect, and count my many blessings.

Finish this statement: I teach because it is my passion. I always dreamed of becoming a teacher and now that dream is a reality. I am the most blessed person in the world because my career brings me so much excitement, joy, and fulfillment. I teach because I want every single student that walks through our classroom doors to know that they matter and that they can, and will, make a difference in this world. My students are the most brilliant, kindest, and genuine people I know and I want every single one of them to feel welcome, loved, and appreciated during the valuable time we have together in our classroom.

Ask your class or group of students to describe you using 3 adjectives. Unique, Loving, and Benevolent
