Jones Intermediate School Earns Signature School Award

Jones Intermediate School is known for their academic and innovative accomplishments and in the 2016-2017 school year, they didn’t disappoint as they worked to grow every child, every day. Jones Intermediate exceeded growth and is ranked 3rd on the state’s EVAAS (Education Value-Added Assessment System) list for growth of elementary schools. The tremendous growth that was achieved earned Jones Intermediate Piedmont Triad Education Consortium’s (PTEC) Signature School Award. Administrators and teachers accepted this award Friday, December 8 at the Celebrating the Successes of Education in the Piedmont Triad breakfast. Some highlights that earned Jones this recognition:

  • Jones Intermediate School exceeded growth and ranked 3rd in the state for growth of elementary schools.
  • In math, students’ average growth was 5.7 standard deviations which is more than two years of growth per student.
  • 5th-grade students ranked 2nd in the state for proficiency in math and science.
  • In reading, students averaged 1.5 standard deviations which means every child grew more than one year’s worth.
  • 5th-grade students ranked 9th in the state for proficiency for reading.

These successes were possible because of the highly qualified and dedicated staff members in the building. 100% of these educators met or exceeded growth according to EVAAS data.

In addition to academic success, Jones Intermediate works innovatively in preparing students to be College and Career Ready. Jones boasts a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) framework that includes a global emphasis. Students attend Spanish classes each week with a native Spanish speaking teacher and the STEAM teacher works with students as they become problem-solvers and innovators.

Jones Intermediate is also a Leader In Me School where students grow through this nationally recognized approach to become leaders and service-minded community members. Students set their own academic and personal goals and have student-led presentations with parents to show progress toward their goals.

Jones Intermediate School teachers and administrators lead by example when it comes to the district’s motto of Lead-Innovate-Service.

Dr. Kim Morrison, Superintendent, states, “I am so proud of Jones Intermediate School that has been named as MACS Signature School for 2017.  This school is one of the top schools in the state for growth and provides an innovative education for all of its students.  The administration and staff have done a phenomenal job preparing students and encouraging leadership in each child.”
