MAMS Earns Redesignation as a Schools to Watch

Mount Airy City Schools is pleased to announce that Mount Airy Middle School (MAMS) has been redesignated a Schools to Watch® (STW). MAMS is one of two middle schools in the state that have earned their first redesignation status. Only 14 middle schools in North Carolina have earned the right to be on the STW list. This award identifies MAMS as one of the best middle schools in the country.

Amanda Robertson Earns Milken Educator Award

Jones Intermediate School has had a lot to celebrate over the years, but today’s announcement may top the list for one educator. Amanda Robertson, fourth-grade teacher, received the shock of a lifetime when it was announced that she is North Carolina’s 2016 Milken Educator Award recipient.

Mount Airy City Schools is pleased to announce that Dr. Phillip Brown has been named the Executive Director for Teaching and Learning in Mount Airy City Schools. Dr. Brown comes to us from Montgomery County Schools where he is the Director of Secondary/Career and Technology Education.

Richard Childress Racing Partnership Continues to Grow

Students in Mount Airy City Schools will be racing into real-world experiences thanks to a $169,650 grant the district received from the Burroughs Wellcome Fund (BWF). The RCR (Richard Childress Racing) Future Drivers Project will engage students, 6th-12th graders, in relevant learning experiences focused on engineering, manufacturing, quality control, and analytics. Students in MACS learn to think critically and become innovative problem-solvers through their STEAM framework. MACS leaders from the trip realized that utilizing a curriculum embedded in industry that uses the industry’s tools and perspective is essential to student’s deep understanding of mathematics and science.
