Enrolling Your Child
Welcome to Mount Airy City Schools!
The following information will guide you through enrolling your child as a NEW student to Mount Airy City Schools (MACS). We look forward to working with you and your child throughout their education. (Beginning March 16, 2026)
BH Tharrington Primary School (PreK*-2)
JJ Jones Intermediate School (3-5)
Mount Airy Middle School (6-8)
Mount Airy High School (9-12)
*Additional paperwork is required for enrollment in NC Pre-Kindergarten. In order to enroll for Pre-K at Bruce H Tharrington Primary (BHT) please stop by the school and pick up an NC Pre-K enrollment packet. Once you have completed and submitted the NC Pre-K packet to BHT, please proceed with completing the online enrollment process shared below.
Enrollment Overview:
Student enrollment is completed online for all schools. Once you complete the online registration, you will be contacted by your child’s new school within 3 business days (if registering for the current school year) to finalize your enrollment and coordinate submission of all required documents (i.e. birth certificate, proof of residence, immunizations, etc).
Step 1 - Verify That Your Address Falls Within the MACS District
Visit Surry County GIS to see if your home address falls within the MACS district.
- Click "Accept" to terms and conditions
- Enter your home address in the "Search by Address" field and click "Search"
- Click "Layers" tab
- Scroll down until you see "school districts" and check the box beside the type needed (ie: "Elementary School Districts" "Middle School Districts", etc)
- Your school district will be identified
If your address does not fall within the MACS district and you would like your child(ren) to attend MACS please refer to Policy Code: 4130 Discretionary Admission as well as information in regards to Out of District Tuition. Step 2 - Collect Required Documents for Enrollment:
Once you have submitted the online enrollment, you will be contacted by the school within 3 business days (if registering for the current school year) to complete the enrollment process. You may choose to upload (OPTIONAL) the required documents when you register your child online. If you do not upload the documents, please make sure you have the following documentation for your scheduled enrollment meeting.
- Birth Certificate
- Valid parent / guardian identification
- Valid Proof of Residence (must be dated within the past three months)
- Utility or cable bill (telephone and/or cell phone bills are not accepted)
- Signed lease agreement
- Mortgage statement, property or income tax statement
- Letter from homeless shelter
- Immunization Records
- Legal Custody Agreement documentation if applicable
- North Carolina Health Assessment Transmittal Form is only needed for first-time enrollment in a North Carolina Public School (Kindergarten-12th grade)
Step 3 - Complete the Online Registration
Before you begin, please gather the following:
- Household information - address and phone numbers
- Parent information - work and cell phone numbers, email addresses
- Student information - demographic and health/medication information
- Emergency Contacts - phone numbers
- Required Documents listed above
