The 2021-2022 school year is around the corner! Below you will find helpful, timely information to help you and your family get the year started off right.
Tuesday, August 3, 2021 Announcement
The 2021-2022 school year is going to look more like a normal school year compared to last year. Several of the measures we utilized last year have been dropped from recommended use. Students and staff can be closer this year for all of the hands-on learning and small group activities that are a daily part of school.
Quarantine rules have been adjusted by the CDC based on what has been learned throughout this unprecedented event. These quarantine rules are guiding decision-making as the number one goal of Mount Airy City Schools is to have a safe learning and working environment where students are learning on campus. Quarantines force students and staff off-campus where learning is impacted and families become disconnected from school. The simplified version of the quarantine rules is: properly worn face coverings on students prevent quarantine. Students who properly wear a mask will not be sent to quarantine after coming in contact with a positive case as long as both parties have on a mask. This will drastically reduce the number of times students and families are impacted by quarantine.
Students will continue to experience mask-free times such as lunch, recess, and all outdoor learning opportunities.
For the first month of school, all students and staff, regardless of vaccination status, will wear a face-covering indoors. This will be re-evaluated after one month.
Note: As we learned last year, guidance can change frequently and we will adjust as needed to meet the requirements and guidelines of the CDC and local health officials.
